Samsung is aiming to launch a smartphone with a screen that folds next year, which would likely be the first available to feature such an innovation.

President of Samsung’s mobile business, noted that the company is setting its eyes on 2018 to release a fold-able phone in its Galaxy Note line. This novel fold-able screens will be based on its bendable OLED screen technology, however, he also noted that there are several hurdles it has to overcome.

Samsung has used its bendable screen technology in a variety of smartphones and televisions to create curved displays displays for its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices and curved TVs.

Other electronics companies are also working similar projects for their next generation devices. Lenovo displayed their Folio tablet that can fold into a smartphone sized device at this year’s Lenovo’s Tech World conference in July.
